Trail Overview

Round Hill Road secondary is a well-maintained trail that travels through sweeping desert grasslands. The road is typically dry and navigable, though conditions can change quickly during the rainy season, since there are some shallow washes that cross the trail. There is an elevated watering hole for wildlife with a large area with a lot of bulldust in dry conditions. There are mule deer and many different bird species within the area.

History

The Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge, established in 1985, encompasses over 117,000 acres in the Altar Valley of southern Arizona. This refuge was created to protect and restore the semidesert grassland ecosystem, providing habitat for a variety of threatened and endangered species, including the masked bobwhite quail and pronghorn.
