Trail Overview

SS1084A begins off Tanque Road, where a convenient staging, parking, and camping area is located directly beside the roadway. The route starts as a wide two-track through classic Sonoran Desert terrain with creosote, cholla cactus, open desert views, and free-ranging livestock, which may be encountered resting on or near the trail. This scenic loop crosses gentle rolling hills, several pullouts, and a few nontechnical drainage washouts that can appear quickly, so reduced speeds are recommended. Vegetation becomes taller and more overgrown farther along, and drivers may need to choose the clearest track while staying within the existing route. Near the game water tank, the trail curves left and continues with views of Mount Graham to the west. A northbound spur branches from the north side of the loop, while the main route continues left. The western section becomes slightly rougher, with loose gravel and rocks up to approximately six inches, but remains nontechnical with careful tire placement. Another spur loop branches off before the route widens and returns to Tanque Road. Expect curves, whoops, scattered washouts, thorny vegetation, and changing conditions caused by erosion and monsoon activity. Avoid travel during or immediately after heavy rain, as wash crossings can flood quickly and trail conditions may change significantly.
