Trail Overview

Trail Ss1070 off SS1051 (accessed from Haekel Road) and requires high clearance and 4WD. It begins easily before dropping into a wash, where you'll need to follow your map closely to locate the climb-out point as the road moves over out of the wash to the other side. After exiting the wash, the route wraps around a sandstone hill. Once around the hill, you'll encounter a washed-out cliff that most vehicles cannot pass directly. Look to the right for a bypass line that drops back into the wash. Enter the wash, take a sharp left, and climb back up to rejoin the original route, Obstacle 1. Continuing on, the trail climbs the next hill and wraps to the left, where high clearance is needed to cross a small V-notch. Obstacle 2. Expect several off-camber sections and deep ruts throughout the route. The trail winds through striking hard-sand hills before reaching the 3rd obstacle, a series of small, manageable V-notches through the mountain. Pick your line, drive up and through, then descend the easier side to a Y intersection of another trail. Stay right to reach the end of this trail, a good spot to stop for lunch or make camp above another section of washed-out earth. Fascinating to see the force of water. Fun trail with 2-3 notable obstacles. Not passable in bad weather -- this is a flash flood area, and portions of the road have already washed out, which has created the 2-3 obstacles. Use caution as the route will change again with future rainfall.
