Trail Overview

The Rolls OHV East Loop is an 18-mile loop of everything the Rolls has to offer. The route consists of a combination of easy, sandy wash roads, loose chunky rock roads, tough climbs that are steep and loose, views of desert flora, and an epic lakeside oasis along Saguaro Lake. Inclement weather and flash flooding may impact this route drastically. Monitoring conditions is advised. Pack out what you packed in.

Difficulty

The majority of the west side of this loop is easy-going, sandy wash road. However, the difficulty rating for this trail is earned by the two-mile stretch along the bottom "U" portion of the loop, in which several steep and loose climbs/descents with washout and erosion throughout are encountered. Extreme caution should be used, as rollovers are entirely possible with poor tire placement, especially in regard to independent suspension vehicles. Grades exceeding 30% may be encountered in some areas. The east side of the loop is a steep, rocky, loose, single-width route. Low range is highly recommended.

Was great, the ride to the lake wasnt bad , but the ride back up was worse, air down, drive slow, you do need a decent 4x4, go with friends. Be wary of SxS coming in hot.

Lots of ATV’s some just stop in the middle of the road be on the look out. The sharp U at the bottom is very dicey with lots of pinstripes and huge rock crossings. Nice view of the lake and a few places to stop and take a swim. It’s the weekend so it was crowded with SXS.

The sand wash is deep sand but manageable if you ride it correctly 😁. The steep uphills were loose rocks but on a dirt bike you can find a good line. Steep down hills very loose rocks and off camber make it look a bit scary, don’t pick up momentum😬. All in all a nice ride, i took the right part of the loop going down and back up. The left side of the loop is definitely more of a challenge.

This trail truly delivers the full Arizona off-road experience — tight sections with classic desert pin-striping, narrow lines that keep you focused, and a few spicy obstacles that look tougher than they drive. I’d rate it around a solid 6 in difficulty, with bypasses available for most of the harder spots, which makes it enjoyable for a wide range of rigs and skill levels. Overall, a great run and easily two thumbs up from me.

Fun trail and I wish we could’ve spent more time at the lake. Plenty of beaches to hang out at with shade from the hot sun. I would start earlier than I did to have plenty of time unless you are comfortable working these obstacles at night. The last push down to the lake is the hardest but you have two options: If you have clearance and experience there is a small but technical rocky obstacle followed by an uphill grade, or if you aren’t quite making it on clearance you can come back up to this steep and rutted downhill section followed by the same grade. Lockers are a must on this trail. Do not try to pop out the butcher jones area as the gate is locked.

Super fun trail. Got just about everything from easy to some pretty technical stuff. The lake is a cool spot to dip your toes in 😎

Great trail. Would highly recommend. Full disclosure - stopped about 4 miles in simply because we were doing casual exploring and definitely did not pack enough water, snacks, sunscreen, and gas. 4 hours seems appropriate for the whole loop. Will definitely be doing the entire thing next visit.
