Trail Overview

Pope Mine Loop is a 25.5-mile loop trail that passes through the Black Mountain Range. There is plenty to explore along this trail, with multiple abandoned mines and narrow slot canyons to hike. (Be cautious, as some vertical shaft mines are not fenced or filled in). At the turnaround point, take some time to hike down to Lake Mohave, approximately 6 miles round trip. The majority of the trail is in a large, wide wash, and sections of the trail may spider web. Attempt to remain on the track, with minor variations. This trail has minor erosion damage in areas up to 12" in depth. Along the southern route, there is a bypass created to avoid the worst parts of erosion damage (up to 20" in depth).
