Trail Overview

This is a fun and informative, short adventure off the Whitmore Canyon Overlook trail. Most travelers to the Grand Canyon pass up this side trail as they are focused on getting to the overlook for the Colorado River. That is a mistake. You can get to the cabin, a small dam of a slot canyon, and the related story from either end. The major sign is on the north end, and it is a fun in-and-out track. There is a short, slick rock face, but most vehicles that can get to the overlook can make the trek to the cabin. Afterwards, be on the lookout for Pa's Pockets as you adventure in the Southwest Utah area. They are more frequent than you would expect. Hint: Check out the petroglyphs just south of St. George city near Little Black Mountain.

Difficulty

There are rocks on the trail and a short, slick rock face to navigate. Most vehicles that can make it to the Colorado River overlook can make it to the small cabin. You may want to walk into the slot canyon dam, which is located approximately 1/4 mile south of the cabin. This is a trail that can be muddy after a storm.
