Trail Overview

Ox Wash Singletrack is an excellent introductory route for beginner dirt bikers and dual-sport riders looking to build confidence on a scenic desert trail. Located near Morristown, Arizona, just north of State Route 74, this 15.9-mile loop winds through the rugged Sonoran Desert landscape, showcasing impressive saguaros and rolling terrain. The trail offers a gentle introduction to singletrack riding, featuring a mix of packed dirt, sandy washes, and occasional loose gravel. With a maximum elevation of 2,519 feet and a cumulative elevation gain of 947 feet, the loop is highly accessible yet keeps riders engaged with its undulating path. Riders should expect an easy technical rating of 2, meaning most of the route is straightforward, though one loose, rocky hill with a minor washout provides a fun, manageable challenge to test balance and throttle control. Staging is most convenient near Castle Hot Springs Road, but those with high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles can venture closer to the trailhead. Given the completely exposed desert environment, this trail is best enjoyed during the cooler months from October through April, when temperatures are mild and desert riding is at its peak.

Trail is relatively flat with no changes in elevation. Basic, beginner friendly. You may encounter a few tricky wash sections and small twisty climbs. Very rocky. Trail is ridden with cacti so speeds are kept pretty slow. Fairly easy, advanced riders may find boring. Trail is also not very prominent and filled with cross over trails so sticking to the actual trail itself is tricky without an app.

Rode the trail with a beginner friend thinking it would be easy. Not sure if we hopped on the at the hardest part of the trail, or if the trail has been significantly deteriorated since the original trail report was made, but I would say this is definitely not a 2/10. We encountered 3 washes with 1-2ft rock shelves and significant steep descent/ascents, although the descents were quite short the rock shelf in combination with the steepness makes it quite technical. We rode probably a half mile in on the trail and then turned around
