Trail Overview
The Old 101 Road is a rocky, one-lane trail that features erosion, water damage, mud ruts, and some larger rocks in the trail. While these larger rocks are to be paid attention to, there are no major obstacles along this trail. There is also no service in this area, so offline maps are recommended. While it starts in an open prairie to the North, you'll quickly enter the forest as you head South, surrounded by towering Ponderosa Pines. The trail is well marked, with a couple of downed trees that have bypasses in place. It does skirt the edge of a mountain, so don't be surprised to end up on a shelf road, with some off-camber bits mixed in.
Difficulty
This is an unmaintained trail with rock garden sections, mud ruts, and erosion. There are some off-camber sections that might give the driver pause. Caution is urged. These conditions might be exacerbated by monsoon season or moisture events.
