Trail Overview
M0776 is an inviting and generally wider access route that leads you back to the M0775 loop trail sections on the western side of Black Mountain. This trail traverses open-range land, so it's essential to pay attention when approaching gates--always leave them as you find them, whether open or closed. Beginning at the wash crossing off Freeman Road, you'll first encounter a large corral that gives a glimpse into the local ranching culture. After passing the corral, you'll need to open or close a wire fence before continuing your ascent into the foothills. As you make your way uphill, expect to navigate through light washout sections, along with a few rocky and loose hill climbs and descents that add a gentle challenge to the drive. Evidence of a recent fire from around 2023 can still be seen along the trail, with the desert slowly healing from its impact. However, the resulting lack of dense vegetation may make wildlife spotting more challenging, as animals have limited cover to hide. While you may come across a few scattered fire rings, this trail is not ideal for camping;most prime spots are located conveniently off Freeman Road instead. Important Note: Access to this trail requires a permit from the Arizona State Land Trust. Be sure to purchase and print your permit online prior to your trip, as it is valid for one year. Cellular service is nonexistent in this area, so it's crucial to download your offline maps before embarking on your adventure. Bring plenty of water and supplies, as the desert environment can present unexpected obstacles. Enjoy the journey!
