Trail Overview
The M0775 Black Mountain West Loop is an exhilarating trail that dives deep into the picturesque foothills of Black Mountain. As an open-range route, it's important to ensure that any gates you encounter are left as you found them--either open or closed--to maintain the wishes of the local rancher's practices. As you embark on this moderately challenging adventure, prepare to be rewarded with stunning vistas that unfold as you crest each foothill. The trail alternates between exhilarating descents into the valleys, washes, and climbs that will test your stock 4x4's capabilities. You'll encounter medium-sized boulders that offer no bypass, deep ruts, and off-camber sections, providing plenty of opportunities for suspension flex and articulation. The trail features sandy washes and longer, loose hill climbs and descents. Watch out for the narrow sections lined with desert plants that line the path--these are sure to leave your rig with the distinctive Arizona pinstripes that off-roaders cherish. Long stretches of rocky terrain require patience as you navigate bumpy sections and carefully maneuver through boulders found in narrow washes. Take a moment to explore the old homestead in the BLM land section--you won't want to miss this historical highlight! As you venture into the southwestern portion of the trail, you'll find yourself surrounded by impressive forests of giant cholla cacti. This area is teeming with life, so keep your eyes peeled for roadrunners darting across the trail and the occasional large lizard or snake making an appearance. Important Note: Most of the trail has no cell service, though you may find two Verizon bars near the southwestern entrance. Be sure to download your offline maps before heading out. Preparing for the desert environment is crucial--bringing plenty of water and supplies, as unexpected situations can arise. Enjoy your exploration on this breathtaking trail!
