Trail Overview

The south end of this dirt bike trail starts on the pavement south of the golf course, with signs to limit speed to help reduce dust. It's a wide track flowing through the rolling hills, on loose dirt and gravel, with whoops, as it parallels the highway. There are big and small wash crossings and small rutted climbs out from the wash. Watch out for sudden dips into the ravines, and lots of spiky cholla cactus lining the trail. There are more frequent trail signs to help follow the route on this one, but there are still several unmarked intersections. It continues to go through a mix of washes and through the rolling hills, with small rock ledges and some steep hill climbs with ruts. The trail surface is constantly covered in small loose rocks and gravel, making it slippery. This trail makes a fun loop with LP3 if you're looking for more of a challenge. Since this trail is partially on Arizona State Trust Land, it requires a recreation permit that you can obtain online.

Access Description

To access the Boulders OHV Area, take North Picacho Wash Road north from the West Carefree Highway. There is a huge staging area a mile up North Picacho Wash Road, with one pit toilet, a couple of picnic tables, and about 20 nice dispersed campsites for big rigs. There's a youth training area as well that is a fenced-off area for young or new riders to practice without cars nearby. This riding area gets very crowded on weekends. Most of the trails are unmarked, so a GPS map is extremely helpful here. Look out for wild burros.
