Lower Hull Tank Road is an easy, scenic dirt route perfect for beginner offroaders, SxSs, and high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles looking to explore the beautiful backcountry of the Kaibab National Forest. Spanning approximately 2.66 miles, this one-lane trail weaves through dense stands of ponderosa and piñon pines, maintaining an elevation between 6,740 feet and 7,085 feet. The path is predominantly composed of dirt and packed mud, offering a straightforward drive with gentle elevation changes. Along the way, drivers can spot striking rock formations and rugged canyons just off the trail, making it a highly visual and rewarding short drive.
A key landmark on this route is the Lower Hull Tank, a natural water catchment basin often frequented by grazing cattle and local wildlife. Due to the clay-heavy soil and unmaintained nature of the road, the surface can quickly turn into a slick, muddy challenge after rain or snow, requiring caution and capable four-wheel-drive traction. Access is straightforward from Grand Canyon National Park's Grandview entrance; drivers can exit East Rim Drive onto Hull Cabin Road, head south and east, and then turn east at the junction with Rim Trail Road to locate the trailhead.
