Trail Overview
This just over 1.5 mile trail (3 miles out and back) that climbs 130 feet, starting at Pole Line Road. The surface is hard-packed sand and gravel, providing solid traction. The trail quickly climbs up toward the power lines and then continues on a ridgeline heading toward the Trigo Mountains. The higher vantage points give you great views of the surrounding area in all directions as you gain elevation. There's very little vegetation along the route, just sparse bushes, which keeps the views wide open. The trail does run along a cliff edge near the end, so use caution and respect the exposure. The trail ends at the Yuma Proving Grounds boundary, where it is unlawful to enter and unsafe due to unexploded munitions.
Difficulty
This is an easy trail with excellent surface conditions on hard-packed sand and gravel. The climb is steady and straightforward with no technical obstacles. The main consideration is the cliff-edge section near the end, which requires attention, but the trail surface itself remains easy to navigate. Stay on the designated route and do not enter the Proving Grounds.
