Trail Overview
This trail starts off South Cibola Lake Road with a surface that alternates between hard-packed and soft sand with some gravel throughout. The route slowly climbs toward the mountains, gaining elevation gradually as you approach. Seasonal wildflowers can make the landscape pop with vibrant colors when in bloom, creating a beautiful contrast against the desert terrain. You'll encounter one small hill climb with loose rock and sand that adds a brief technical challenge. The trail offers dramatic views of the Trigo Mountains throughout, with the peaks growing more impressive as you draw closer. There are lots of areas to disperse camp along the way, making this a popular spot to set up and enjoy the mountain views.
Difficulty
This is an easy trail overall, with the main consideration being the transition between hard-packed and soft sand surfaces. The slow climb is gradual and manageable. The one small hill climb with loose rock and sand requires some momentum and careful throttle control, but isn't overly technical. Four wheel drive is recommended for the soft sand sections and the loose hill climb. Suitable for most high clearance vehicles.
