Cottonwood Trail #8 (ATV)

The north entrance of this trail starts at some wooden posts spaced for 50-inch vehicles off of Forest Service Road 21. The trail drops down into a sandy ravine in a ponderosa pine forest. The trail is dirt with a layer of small loose rocks, a few embedded roots, and downed leaves and pine needles. Parts of the trail are wider, but some segments will feel narrower between the bushes for ATVs. It goes into a v-bottom ravine with sand that is fun to ride. The trail continues in a forested terrain, but goes through a burn area where there is potential for hazards from downed logs. While it’s mostly gradual, there are a few steeper spots, as well as rutted spots with loose softball-sized rocks filling in the ruts. Expect a few bigger embedded rock layers as well.
