Trail Overview

The Brutal Run to Wickiup is a punishing, vehicle-testing adventure designed strictly for experienced offroaders seeking a high-clearance challenge through the rugged Hualapai Mountains. Stretching approximately 37 miles from the desert flats near Cactus Mountain to US Highway 93 near Wickiup, this route climbs from an elevation of 1,991 feet up to a peak of 5,771 feet. Drivers will face a relentless onslaught of steep climbs and descents with over 4,600 feet of elevation gain, navigating a primary surface of dirt, sand, and sharp rock. The trail is notorious for extremely dense, overgrown desert vegetation that will scratch paint, requiring a narrow vehicle footprint and serious determination to push through. Technical difficulties abound along this remote track, which features a rating of 7 out of 10 due to multiple rock-slide obstacles, narrow boulder squeezes, and sandy washes that demand excellent tire placement and low-range gearing. The constant elevation changes offer stunning, panoramic views of nearby Pine Peak and Granite Peak, but drivers must remain focused on the unforgiving terrain to avoid body damage and tire punctures. Due to the extreme remoteness and potential for landslides, travelers should carry self-recovery gear, spare tires, and plenty of water, as assistance is far away in this rugged corner of Arizona.

Trail has some spots where wider buggies need to be a little cautious. Some spots would be extremely tricky for two buggies to,pass each other. A motorcycle could do easily with some speed. Elevation goes up to around 7400 feet. Random rocks will be in the trail. Not a difficult trail but don’t go off the mountain while looking at the beautiful views.
