Trail Overview

This is a scenic drive through the Santa Rita Mountains that gets you up and out of the desert and into the oaks. Great views along the way! Coming from the east side of the mountains, it tops out behind the community of Greaterville and brings you back out to Highway 83. From there, you can head south to the town of Sonoita or back north to I-10.

This is a very easy mountain road with little to no technical obstacles depending on your vehicle and the time of year.

Very scenic drive. Somewhat wash boarded and dusty. 4X4 not need but a vehicle with a little clearance is a plus. Quite a few other people on the road.

Graded & leveled dirt road the whole way, couple short spots of loose dirt. Passable by just about any vehicle, saw tons of gravel bikes using it. Would not consider this truly “off-road” as it is so well maintained for the ranches. It’s even paved at the east end for the last couple of miles. Cake walk of a trail.

Starting from Green Valley, the road has aggressive washboard until closer to where it begins to wind. In some places there road gets narrow and only allows for 1 vehicle to pass. There are some turn outs to allow traffic to pass. Overall, easy trail, but washboarding makes parts of the drive unpleasant. Keep your speed down on the straightaways.

Smooth dirt road, slick around the turns at elevation. Steep embankments with little room for error. Nice cut from Green Valley to Sonoita. Steepish grades to mountain top
