Trail Overview

Blue Tree Road offers offroaders an easy, scenic escape through the expansive grasslands and towering ponderosa pine forests northwest of Flagstaff. Perfect for beginners and those seeking a relaxed drive, this roughly four-mile dirt trail winds around the northern base of Wild Bill Hill, providing stunning panoramic views of the surrounding volcanic peaks and open meadows. Sitting at an elevation of around 7,500 feet, the route features very mild elevation changes of less than 200 feet, making it accessible to most high-clearance vehicles, including stock SUVs and crossovers, under dry conditions. As you traverse this scenic corridor, you will find several primitive camping spots ideal for pitching a tent or setting up an overland basecamp to enjoy the quiet forest. The area is a hub for multi-use recreation, providing excellent access to nearby hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails, as well as winter snow sports when the snowpack allows. Since the route is not winter maintained, seasonal closures or heavy snow accumulation can make it impassable during the colder months.
