Trail Overview

The East side of this traverse might make you feel good about your choice of trails. It's dirt, there's plenty of room to pass other traffic, and you're surrounded by beautiful mixed pine trees. Birds are singing, and the wind is gently blowing through the trees. Heading West, you'll pop out onto a beautiful plateau into a large meadow where elk, deer, and antelope frolic in the vast open grassland. As you head over the ridge, more technical driving is needed. Large rock gardens and obstacles up to 12" await, as well as off-camber wash crossings, ledges, erosion, and tight turns through the Juniper trees. The views are beautiful along this trail, so feel free to take your time, as there's no rush. Paint damage is guaranteed along some sections as the trees are tight in some places.

We did this in a Can Am Defender. From the Welch road, the trail has been opened up by heavy equipment for logging. It is rough and uneven, however easy to maneuver with high clearance vehicles. Mid way up, the dozer improvement ends and the road becomes rough with several large rocks to navigate through. Once on top, the road is much tamer, the vegetation opens up.

Trail is very rocky. Much easier going from East to West than from West to East.
