Trail Overview
This is a scenic trail that offers access to other trails in the Tonto National Forest, or can take you from Route 288 over to the Tonto Basin north of Lake Roosevelt. There are some graded sections, loose rock, small inclines, portions of shelf road, and a couple of rocky sections less than 12 inches. In the distance, you can see views of the Mogollon Rim to the North. Some sections of this route have clay-like soil that becomes slick and muddy and ruts easily after rain. Traveling on this route after significant rain is not recommended. There is active ranching going on, so be sure to watch for livestock and be respectful of private property.
Difficulty
After a rain, there could be some muddy ruts left behind. There were a couple of sections where there was a rock ledge less than 12 inches and a few miles of shelf road, so keep an eye out for places to pull off if you encounter oncoming traffic.
