Trail Overview

This is primarily a 19-mile cruise on the beach. The first 4 miles are getting to the beach from the town of Vincent Guerrero. It follows a major wash that brings water from the mountains down to the ocean. Once you get to the beach, it's open fun as you cruise along the waterfront. Know the times of the tides. The best sand is just above the water line where the sand is slightly wet. People, other vehicles, and some rocks and grasslands are your only obstacles except the ocean. Respect the ocean or you could be swallowed up. Airing down low is key to enjoying the sandy fun. As you get to mile 16.5, there is a steep grade to come off the beach. It's best to come off here as the beach gets more narrow and a cliff starts along the ocean. You will then follow some beach grasslands and make your way around some large industrial farms until you get to the Valley of the Volcanoes.

Difficulty

The first 4 miles are a large wash. Be cautious of deep sand and the potential for getting off trail; there could be drop-offs. It is also an industrial area, so watch for heavy equipment. Once on the beach, dangers are deep sand and the potential for getting stuck in the soft sand if you get too close/into the ocean. Be aware of the tides.
