Mission Back Road

This back road in the oasis town of Mulege takes you to the Mision Santa Rosalia de Mulege, founded by the Spanish in 1705. The mission is open sometimes for a quick tour, but the scenic overlook behind it is a must-see with its sweeping views of the town, palm groves, and the Rio Mulege. A short drive on the dirt road heading west towards the Punta de Agua neighborhood is where the river emerges from the ground. During summer storms and hurricanes, this area is subject to massive floods. Check the maps for additional roads that lead up into the mountains.
