Trail Overview
This is a challenging sand route that runs parallel to the ocean, offering stunning views from the highest point above the surf. To navigate this route, a 4x4 with extra clearance, aired down tires, and recovery gear is recommended. It's important to remain on the flat section as high as possible and avoid driving down to the surf area. This route is particularly popular among ATV and Side By Side enthusiasts who use it to retrieve kite surfers who are blown to the end of the bay. Stay clear of all beaches during the fall due to possible turtles nesting. Even out of the season always stay on the existing tracks and keep your eyes open for marked areas and other sea life in these areas. There are several lovely campsites along the way, and the beach route departs near the lighthouse at the end. The lighthouse area is a favorite spot for nationals during weekends and holidays. The dirt road from there will have some wash boards so staying aired down until you see pavement will promote a much more comfortable ride. This road leads to Bahia Los Suenos, a picturesque bay with a another nice beach and restaurant.
Difficulty
This has an intermediate rating due to areas with very soft and deep sand and the requirement for experience in airing down tires to low pressure levels. Keep your speed up in areas with deep tracks and carry recovery gear and traction boards as conditions change with tides. Its not recommended to pass the point where the lighthouse is located due to much deeper sand and a high percentage of getting your vehicle buried.
