Trail Overview

The trail begins just past the small pueblo of La Poza Grande, where the remnants of an older section of town appear as you near the end of the pavement. Abandoned buildings line the outskirts, offering a haunting glimpse into the past, though it's best to keep moving when traveling solo in such remote areas. As you leave the town, some scattered trash from a nearby landfill briefly mars the scenery, but the trail soon gives way to a soft sandy road winding through mid-sized desert vegetation. El Cardon cacti stand proudly among the brush, adding to the rugged beauty of the landscape. The sand is light and easy to navigate, guiding you steadily toward the lagoon. At the water's edge, you'll find the floating structures of oyster & clam farms--a distinctive feature of this tranquil coastline. The trail's true reward awaits in the evening, as the lagoon becomes a canvas for spectacular sunsets, making the journey unforgettable.
