Trail Overview

Starting in Falmouth, the hard-packed dirt road travels through the French Mill Brook Watershed Protected Area. The single-lane road becomes rougher as you progress, with large, deep puddles requiring some ground clearance to avoid scraping. The road is susceptible to washouts due to the many mountains and brooks in the area, so be cautious of bridges. There are also sections with deep mud ruts.

Difficulty

History

Eldridge Road in Falmouth, Nova Scotia, is situated in a region rich with historical significance. Originally known as Pisiquid, the area was settled by Acadians in the early 1680s, who established farms utilizing productive dyked fields. Following the Expulsion of the Acadians in 1755, the land was resettled by New England Planters around 1760. These settlers, including families like the Eldridges, established communities that have persisted for generations. The Eldridge family name is prominent in the region, with many Eldridges settling in southern Nova Scotia during the 1760s. Their presence has been influential in the area's development, and it's plausible that Eldridge Road was named to honour this family's contributions. Nearby, Eldridge Falls, a 12-foot waterfall on Allen Brook, adds to the natural beauty and historical tapestry of the area.
