Trail Overview

Engage 4-low and prepare for a challenging ascent! This gravel trail winds up to the summit of Terrace Mountain, offering stunning 360-degree views of the Okanagan Valley, including Okanagan Lake. The trail is narrow, with limited opportunities to pass oncoming vehicles. Deploying a drone can provide insight into potential vehicles heading down. Each switchback provides sufficient space to pull over for vehicles or photo opportunities. Navigate carefully through several sections that demand precise line-picking. You'll observe remnants of past fires, evidenced by the silver sticks scattered throughout the area. At the summit, ample space is available for parking and exploring. Given the intermittent cell service, a satellite device is highly recommended. This view is sure to exceed expectations!

Difficulty

This is a narrow, steep trail that requires you to pick your line in several areas due to large rocks. Expect some off-camber sections and ledges.

History

There used to be a forest fire lookout at the top of Terrace Mountain that was built in 1940 and then burnt down in 1989. There was then another fire in 2009.

Looked like 1 vehicle had made snow tracks ahead of me, 1-2 days ago, and then quad tracks up the steeper sections of the trail to the top. Snow conditions, trail was drivable but felt a bit tight for my '24 Tundra. Haven't been up the trail before and stopped/turned around what looked like 2 switchbacks from the top. Trail was getting tighter, steeper, and given the snow, I wasnt sure what my turnaround options would be if things went sideways. Great views and beauty drive.

Entered from the east as per the map shown. Many excavated ditches with a tough entrance to the trail where it was blocked (attempted to block) access by built up dirt bank and ditch. Would not recommend this entrance unless with a high ground clearance 4x4. Exited via the West which was much easier although prepare for very tight trails which will drag your vehicle through the overgrown trees and bushes. The view at the summit is spectacular and well worth the effort!

My 11yr old thought we should turn around, but the shelf road prevented us. Last bit was steep w slate type rock on road. Tight spots with fallen trees, but worth the view.
