Trail Overview
Quartz Lake Trail is an out-and-back that branches from the Premier Lake Forest Service Road and provides access to a lake identified by local signage as either Quartz Lake or Rock Bluff Lake. The route travels through open, lightly wooded pine meadows and offers a relatively easy drive for most of its length. Conditions include puddles, mud, potholes, and occasional ruts. Near the lake, the trail becomes more challenging, with a short, loose, lightly off-camber uphill section that requires careful tire placement and steady momentum. This short section accounts for the trail’s overall 3 rating; the remainder is generally an easy 2 route. As the trail approaches the lake, it opens to an excellent elevated view looking lengthwise across the clear water. At the terminus, there is a small gravel boat launch, along with a loop providing ample parking or turnaround space. A pit toilet is also available. This is a day-use area. No overnight camping. Cell service is weak and intermittent; download offline maps before leaving.
Difficulty
Expect mud, puddles, potholes, and ruts, particularly after rain or spring thaw. Use extra caution on the loose, narrow, lightly off-camber uphill section near the lake.
