Trail Overview
A nice easy drive to where the old Canadian Forces Station Kamloops, and to the top of the mountain where NORAD operated a General Surveillance Radar station, till it closed in 1988 due to military technology advances. Currently, Telus still operates a communication installation there..At the start of the Dirt road ( about 4 km up from the start) is where the Base was constructed in 1957 and stood till it was demolished in 2005, and then the land was returned to the Tk'emlups te Secwepemc people in 2012. A small trailer park called McNair Park was established on the site for married personnel and workers who had their own mobile homes. McNair Park has been fully decommissioned and no longer exists, but the old sign remains. The Station briefly came back to life when the movie "Cadence", starring Charlie Sheen and Laurence Fishburne, was filmed at the site in 1990. The road is maintained up to about the 7 km mark, and then it becomes a little more rutted and pot-holed filled but easily can be made in 2WD with good ground clearance. This is also a great area for snow wheel, and in the winter months, can easily have a couple of feet of snow on it at any time, making it extremely challenging.
