Trail Overview

When following along this route you will be traveling active logging roads and you must give way to all logging traffic. This is a well-maintained logging road that includes views of the nanoose bay which also happens to be home to the Canadian Forces Maritime Experimental and Test Ranges. The last 500 feet of this route turns into an overgrown trail that turns into mud and has a deep water crossing, Stay left for the shallowest crossing. Once you arrive at the lake you will be greeted by a wonderful floating dock to fish from and a rope swing if you're feeling adventurous! Once upon a time, there was a beautiful wooden gazebo but it has since been burnt down.

There is a large yellow gate at the start of the FSR that is locked. There is an obvious bypass immediately adjacent the gate that is NOT stock friendly due to a 2 or 3 foot rock drop, and it is harder to leave than enter. That said, it looks like you can find about a dozen other ways around the gate. The FSR is in fine condition and Kidney Lake is very nice and secluded.
