Trail Overview
Hathaway Main is a gravel logging road accessed via the Southwest Main Trail. This route winds through rolling hills covered in lush green forest, dense brush, and is seasonally lined with colorful wildflowers. It offers a scenic but utilitarian route with a few small bridges, providing pleasant views over creeks and forested ravines. The road is very dusty. It's an active logging route, so use extreme caution - pull over in designated areas to let log trucks pass safely, and monitor the local radio frequency for oncoming traffic. Along the way, you'll encounter a few shallow water holes, though they are typically passable. There are also multiple signs of black bear activity in the area, so keep an eye out.
Difficulty
This is a well-graded gravel road, suitable for most vehicles. The biggest hazards are dust, logging traffic, and occasional water crossings. A radio is strongly recommended to monitor truck traffic.
