Trail Overview

This is a fun, very twisty, and very scenic route that crosses over the Purcell Mountains from Kootenay Lake to St Mary's and is the only route that goes all the way across this area without hitting pavement. It can be run in either direction when open, but this pass is closed in the winter until July 1st, so plan accordingly.

Difficulty

This is an easy road that can be done in most vehicles with a bit of ground clearance. There is a lot of small exposed rocks making for a rough ride, so it's recommended to air down a bit for comfort.

Nice scenery, a 2wd would make it but lots of boulders in areas so higher clearance preferred

Was very lucky - The west side of the pass was closed due to wash outs and construction. the Trail opened a few hours before we got there. There was no sign on the east side of the pass until we were an hour and a half in and on top of the pass. West side of the pass was ALOT smoother than the east side. East side wasn't bad, I did air done a tad just to make the road less bumpy.
