This multi-trail route through Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary begins at the Allens Neck Trailhead on the south side of Allens Neck Road. Head west on Woodland Loop and take a right at the junction to connect with Boulder Loop. Stay right through mature woods and open pastures dotted with glacial boulders—one large enough to scramble up for treetop views. Continue onto the Grassland Trail, then keep right again onto Quansett Trail. This section crosses a private easement; be respectful and remain on the marked path.
Follow Quansett Trail past the Stone Barn Farm trailhead and continue south through mixed meadow and woodland habitat. Short spur trails to Reuben’s Point and Brook Loop offer rewarding wildlife viewing opportunities, especially for birders—over 300 species have been recorded in the area. Farther along, Quansett Trail transitions into Fresh Pond Trail, curving around the pond and looping back on itself. Retrace your steps to return to Allens Neck Trailhead, or connect to another nearby access point if using a shuttle. Expect moderate terrain with uneven footing in places and potentially muddy boardwalks. This longer route links shaded woods, boulder fields, pond edges, and coastal marsh, making it a dynamic day hike in southeastern Massachusetts.
