The Pine Needle Path begins and ends at a trailhead within Moretown Town Forest, winding through a gently rolling landscape of mixed northern hardwoods and pine. The well-marked route follows a consistent grade and is suitable for novice hikers, trail runners, and mountain bikers looking for a low-key outing. Starting from the trailhead at Moretown Elementary, take either trail toward the hill. After a short distance, the path passes through a series of fern-covered glades and scattered pines, offering occasional views of the Mad River Valley through breaks in the canopy.
There are no water sources along the route, so plan to carry what you need. Spring visitors should expect muddy sections, and summer hikers should take precautions against ticks. The trail can be slippery after rain, especially in shaded areas with dense leaf litter. Despite being close to town, this route offers a quiet forest experience with chances to spot warblers, woodpeckers, and other birdlife.
