Description
The route begins at the Equinox Preservation Trailhead on West Union Street in Manchester. From the trailhead, the route climbs steadily through mixed hardwood forest before merging with a broader trail for the climb. Continue straight uphill, following the Blue Summit Trail as it winds along the eastern slope of Equinox Mountain. Expect a consistent, often strenuous climb with occasional steep and muddy sections, especially after rain or during spring melt. At a high elevation saddle, a short spur leads to Lookout Rock, a scenic outcrop with expansive views across the Manchester Valley. Returning to the main trail, continue the final push toward the summit of Equinox Mountain. Near the top, the forest thins and opens to sweeping views from the summit area, including vistas across the Taconic Range and Green Mountains. The trail ends at the summit viewpoint before retracing your steps downhill to return. This route offers one of the best alpine hikes near Manchester, Vermont, with rewarding summit views and a challenging but well-maintained trail.
