Description
Starting at the Equinox Preservation Trust parking area off West Union Street in Manchester, this route climbs gently through hardwood forest to the quiet shores of Equinox Pond. Follow well-marked trails from the trailhead as they head westward, gradually gaining elevation through stands of maple, beech, and birch. At the first junction, stay left to reach Flatlander Pass Trail. After a short climb, the route crests the pass and descends slightly toward the pond. From here, the trail continues south, eventually reaching the northern shoreline of Equinox Pond. Along the way, hikers can expect seasonal streams, occasional views of the Taconic Range through the trees, and excellent chances to spot wildlife, particularly in the early morning or evening. During fall, the foliage is especially vibrant, making this one of the more scenic day hikes near Manchester. The return follows the same trail. This peaceful forest walk offers a rewarding destination at the reflective waters of Equinox Pond.
