There and Back
In 0.1 miles, turn right to join another fork of the Wapack that comes from the road just east of the parking area (remember to turn left on the way back). The trail soon passes through a mountain laurel grove, then crosses a brook. In half a mile, the trail begins to ascend steeply through a boulder field before opening onto wide, flat ledges. Once you get high enough, you'll be able to look back and see to the north. After about 0.4 miles over granite and through the forest again, the trail soon reaches the summit with superb views of the surrounding area. The Wapack Trail continues on from here to South Pack Monadnock and eventually Massachusetts. At the summit of North Pack Monadnock, there is a somewhat limited view to the northwest. The view is wide, but grown in by small trees. Don't stop here! Continue to the summit cairn.
