The route begins from the main parking area at Cathedral of the Pines Sanctuary on Hale Hill Road in Rindge, New Hampshire. From the kiosk, follow signed paths toward Cathedral Road to access the Eastern Trails, crossing the road with care before entering a wooded corridor marked by blue diamond blazes. The Eastern side trends through mixed forest with ferns and soft footing, gradually passing along the edge of Emerson Pond and weaving between memorial features. Several short connectors branch off, but staying on the primary marked path leads steadily south and east before curving back toward Cathedral Road.
After recrossing Cathedral Road, the route transitions to the Western Trails, which are generally wider and more established. These paths pass near picnic areas and travel through quiet woods with occasional views of Grassy Pond. Junctions are informal in places, so referencing posted maps or GPS helps maintain the intended route as the trail turns north and west, eventually guiding hikers back toward the central sanctuary grounds. Along the way, the walk passes cultural landmarks such as the Peace Monument and other memorial structures that reflect the site’s contemplative purpose.
This easygoing route rewards hikers with peaceful forest scenery, reflective landmarks, and occasional distant views of Mount Monadnock, making it a relaxed and meaningful walk in southern New Hampshire.
