Loop
This short, easy route begins at the parking area near the Garvies Point Museum in Glen Cove and loops through a mix of shoreline, woodland, and meadow habitats within Garvies Point Preserve. From the trailhead, follow the marked path west toward the shoreline, where views open up across Hempstead Harbor. The route traces the edge of low bluffs before turning inland through transitional forest and past glacial terrain marked by eroding cliffs and exposed sandstone.
Interpretive signage highlights the area’s geologic history and Native American heritage. Near the entrance, a garden supports native pollinators and offers a colorful stop in warmer months. While elevation change is minimal, parts of the trail may be uneven, especially near eroded bluff edges. Dogs are not allowed, and visitors should stay on marked trails to help protect the preserve’s sensitive ecosystems. This is a quick, family-friendly walk with rewarding harbor views and unique natural features close to the city.
