The Cedariver Trail begins and ends at a small parking area off Forest Road in Millis, MA, and follows a wide carriage-style path. This short route crosses through a blend of open meadows, second-growth woodlands, and riparian habitat managed by The Trustees of Reservations. From the trailhead, the path heads west past tall grasses and hedgerows before curving toward the Charles River. Stay on the main trail as it loops through lowland forest, with chances to spot deer, hawks, and wild turkeys in quieter sections.
River access appears along the far side of the route, where the trail runs close to the bank. Expect soft or muddy footing here during wet periods — especially during spring runoff or after heavy rains — as this area lies within a designated flood-control zone. Hikers should stay on the trail to respect private property in the middle of the reservation. The trail eventually swings back through lightly wooded terrain to return to the parking area. This is a quiet, beginner-friendly route for short day hikes near Boston with a peaceful setting and varied terrain.
