Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway: Section 9

This section starts from the parking area on New Canada Road and runs eastward. It follows an old road along the same tread as the Ragged Mountain Trail. At the top of the Ragged Mountain Trail, SRK G leaves RMT to the left. Here, the trail traverses over the rocky semi-exposed ridgeline of the Ragged Mountains. It skirts the edge of a ski glade until it comes out to a radio tower, on the summit of West Peak. It turns right, just before the ski patrol lodge and re-enters the woods. Here, the trail becomes much rougher and less maintained. It doesn't appear that the trail was cut here, but exists only because of constant foot traffic. The trail reaches a particularly dangerous area where it climbs out of a dip, along a steep rocky ledge. It passes by 2 optional spurs (both on the left), for East Peak and Balance Rock (Bulkhead). The trail descends, following a rough ridgeline down to the Field House trail system. The trail skirts around a construction area, as it comes down to the parking area. The portion of the SRK G ends when it reaches Main Street.
