The Low Plain Trails begin at either Mountain Road or Route 11 in New London, offering a gentle network of forest and wetland paths within the Esther Currier Wildlife Management Area. The main route, Davis Path, follows a wide gravel corridor through mixed woods and open wetland habitat. From the Mountain Road trailhead, follow Davis Path northwest. Turn right at the junction with Sundown Trail, which heads southeast and crosses Mountain Road. At the next signed junction, keep right to stay on Sundown as it bends through pine woods, crosses Baker Road, and rejoins Davis Path for a short return to the starting point.
Along the way, side trails lead to multiple wildlife observation blinds overlooking active beaver ponds and marshes. A short boardwalk spur near the middle of Davis Path offers access to a floating quaking bog—conditions here may be wet or impassable during early spring. Visitors will also pass a geology exhibit and seasonal salamander pool. In winter, the mostly flat terrain makes this a popular route for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
