The Long Point Lighthouse Trail begins near Pilgrim’s First Landing Park at the southern end of Province Lands Road in Provincetown, Massachusetts. From the trailhead, hikers cross a long stretch of the Long Point Dike—an uneven granite breakwater extending across Provincetown Harbor. The rocks are wide-set in places and can be slick when wet, requiring steady footing. Tide timing is critical, as sections of the dike may be submerged or wave-swept at high tide, making the crossing hazardous or inaccessible.
After reaching the far side of the harbor, continue straight to the southern shoreline of the point. Turn left and head northeast along sandy paths toward the Long Point Lighthouse. This remote stretch of the Cape Cod National Seashore features wide views of Cape Cod Bay, shifting dunes, and active birdlife. At the tip of the peninsula, the route ends at the historic lighthouse, built in 1875, alongside its oil house and a memorial cross dedicated to Charles S. Darby. The return follows the northern shoreline back to the dike. This coastal route offers a rare chance to hike to one of Cape Cod’s most isolated landmarks.
