Point Elizabeth Lookout Track

The Point Elizabeth Lookout Track is a short and easy hike located near Greymouth, West Coast. This hike travels through a subtropical forest to Point Elizabeth Lookout. The trail provides periodic views of the Tasman Sea throughout. This out and back hike is 2.9 miles long and gains 318 feet of elevation.This hike starts from the Point Elizabeth Walkway parking area off of N Beach Rd. Begin hiking north on Point Elizabeth Walkway. You will be hiking uphill almost immediately. After 0.3 miles, you will come to a viewpoint of the Tasman Sea. Continue on the trail. There are multiple signs along the trail that give information about some of New Zealand's native plants. Another 0.3 miles brings you to another Tasman Sea viewpoint. Continue hiking through the forest.After you have hiked another 0.4 miles through the forest, the trail opens up a bit and you are walking amongst shrubs. 0.2 miles down the trail, you will reach a viewpoint of a sea cliff and the Tasman Sea. There is an informational sign about some of the animals that live in the sea. Continue hiking for another 0.1 miles to reach a junction. Go left here. 0.1 miles later, you will have reached Point Elizabeth Lookout. You will enjoy views of sea stacks and the rocky coast of the Tasman Sea. On a clear day, you may be able to see mountains in the distance. There is also a bench at this viewing platform. Once you have taken ample time to enjoy the view, turn around and retrace your steps to return to the parking area.The Point Elizabeth Lookout Track is open for hiking year round. There are no associated fees to hike here. Dogs are not allowed on this trail. This trail is also suitable for mountain biking.
