Description
This trail starts off wide and easy with a beautiful tread through a protected Vermont forest. As you climb, the trail becomes steeper and rockier, but still manageable for an adventurous family. Along the way, you'll see small mountain creeks and numerous birds. It's a very popular trail and can become quite crowded on the weekends, so get there early! The trail formally ends at a clearing where it meets up with the famous Vermont Long Trail and the Monroe Trail, which comes up from the other side of the mountain. You can follow the Long Trail south approximately 0.3 miles to reach the summit of Camel's Hump with great 360-degree views of the Green Mountains. On a clear day, you can easily see Lake Champlain to the east and Mount Mansfield to the north. The trail runs below the tree line for the vast majority of the time, which keeps it protected from the winds that buffet the top. The views of the surrounding mountains can be limited until the summit is reached.
