Loop
The Pole Hill Pond Loop begins at the Pole Hill Pond Trailhead just off Hwy. 9N, a short drive south of Bolton Landing in the southeastern Adirondacks. From the parking area, the route climbs steadily through mixed hardwood forest, passing a junction at a short distance where the loop begins. Most hikers head clockwise to reach the best views earlier in the day. The path ascends a few rocky, root-filled stretches as it gains a ridge with intermittent views of Lake George and the Tongue Mountain Range to the east.
At roughly halfway, the trail drops to the shores of Pole Hill Pond, a quiet, reflective body of water tucked in a wooded basin. This is a good turnaround spot for shorter outings or a scenic break for those completing the full route. From the pond, the path gradually climbs again before curving back toward the initial junction and returning to the trailhead. Wildlife sightings are common, especially in the early morning or evening hours. While the trail is open year-round, expect snow and ice in winter, with snowshoe travel often required. This route is a rewarding half-day hike with a mix of forest solitude and classic Adirondack views.
