Loop
Park at the Peavine Falls Trailhead. The hike starts on the Shackleford Point Trail (White Trail) which begins on the east side of the parking area; the Peavine Falls Trail (Green Trail) starts on the western side of the parking lot but this trail doesn't actually lead to the falls, so don't be fooled by the trail name. The Shackleford Point Trail (White Trail) starts with a gradual, half mile descent. Stay left at the first junction you come to with the Falls Creek Trail. At just under a half mile, you'll come to a second trail junction, this time with the South Rim Trail (Blue Trail). Turn right here and cross Peavine Branch. Here you'll have the option to hike to the base of the falls. Use caution as the terrain is steep and slippery in places. Once you are to the base of the falls, you can enjoy the 65-foot tall, spring fed waterfall either by finding a nice spot to sit and enjoy the view, or on hot days, you can enjoy a quick dip in the pool at the base of the waterfall. The falls will be more dramatic after recent rains. After enjoying your time at the falls, continue on the South Rim Trail (Blue Trail) to reach the Rim Shelter Trail. This spur trail is a nice out-and-back option that leads to views of Peavine Gorge and Peavine Branch. If you aren't feeling like adding on this mileage, you can hop on the Falls Creek Trail which follows then crosses Peavine Branch before reconnecting to the Shackleford Point Trail (White Trail) to return you to the parking lot.
