Loop
This easy route begins at the Cherry Street parking area in Wenham, MA, and enters the Mass Audubon–managed Cedar Pond Wildlife Sanctuary. From the trailhead, follow Higginson Way east through upland forest and shaded groves of Atlantic white cedar. After a short distance, the trail reaches the junction with Cedar Pond Loop—hikers can head in either direction to circle the pond. Along the way, occasional spur paths lead to quiet viewing spots overlooking the water.
The loop travels through a mix of forest, bog, and swamp, with stretches that follow subtle glacial eskers and a stone bridge crossing the pond’s filled drainage outlet. The trail is mostly flat with a few brief inclines and can become muddy after rain. Dogs and horses are not allowed. After completing the loop, return via Higginson Way to reach the starting point.
