Description
The Mount Peg Loop begins and ends at the Golf Avenue Trailhead, offering a well-marked route through Woodstock’s town forest. From the trailhead, follow signs through shaded hardwoods, gently gaining elevation. Keep heading up at junctions to gradually climb to the loop on the summit of Mount Peg. The grassy summit clearing offers wide views of Woodstock village below and the surrounding Green Mountains—particularly scenic during fall foliage. Beyond the summit, the trail descends gently through mixed forest, passing several trail junctions with optional short detours. Stay on the main path to complete the loop. While suitable for most hikers, expect some muddy sections in spring. Dogs are allowed on leash, and the area sees light mountain bike traffic on intersecting trails. This is a great short route for year-round outings, from fall hikes to winter snowshoeing.
