This short, easy route begins at the Eshqua Bog Natural Area parking area on Garvin Hill Road in Hartland and follows a well-maintained boardwalk into one of Vermont’s most unique wetland ecosystems. Managed by The Nature Conservancy and the Vermont Center for Ecostudies, the trail winds through a calcareous fen known for its stunning diversity of wildflowers, particularly during late spring and early summer. Expect to see blooming lady’s slippers, carnivorous pitcher plants, and a wide range of wetland flora.
The route is entirely on boardwalk, making it accessible for most visitors and ideal for families or casual day hikers. Be sure to stay on the path to protect the sensitive environment. This is a prime spot for wildlife viewing, especially birds and insects attracted to the bog’s rich biodiversity. In order to preserve the fragile ecosystem, dogs are not allowed on the boardwalk. The trail’s highlight is its rare habitat and the impressive seasonal display of orchids and other blooms.
