Description
The Amity Pond Trail begins off Allen Hill Road, just east of East Barnard, Vermont, and forms a gentle forested loop managed by the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation. Starting from the small trailhead, the route quickly opens to a small clearing around Amity Pond. From the pond, continue into the natural area for a forested loop passing by Sugar Arch and Amity Pond shelters. This route is open to hiking and snowshoeing, and dogs are welcome on leash. While the terrain remains mostly easy, expect muddy patches or light ice during spring and fall. Wildlife sightings—especially moose or deer—are possible in the quieter stretches of forest. Fall foliage hikes are especially scenic thanks to the dense tree cover and low foot traffic. Water is available from the pond and streams but should be treated before use.
